The filter pads and EHEIM filter pads are made of specially structured materials and comply with the layered construction within the EHEIM filter with different functions, which are, depending on type, mechanical, biological and adsorptive filtration.

Filter sponges for mechanical and biological filtration:

The porous material is penetrated by the water in a homogeneous way and retains coarse and fine particles of dirt. After a short period of operation, cleaning bacteria, which ensure intensive biological degradation of the harmful substances, are colonized in the specially structured foam material.
Sponges can be used several times. During cleaning, they should only be washed and squeezed carefully so that bacterial colonies are not completely destroyed.
